The Digby Ferry to Fundy National Park

October 11

Rule 17 of trailering: Never hook up and leave in the dark! That is the first time we did that. We had made reservations on the Ferry from Digby, NS to St. John, NB. Scheduled to leave at 8.00 am. Great sleep, too good, awoke at 6.00 am to horror, we had to leave in 1/2 hour. Coffee perking, clothes going on and some thoughts of food. I went out to do preliminary taking out of supports and levelling jacks and disconnecting water and electricity but could not see a thing except stars in the heavens.

Attempts to see were futile, so we turned on all the lights and opened the blinds. That helped, breakfast was cereal and coffee, in a hurry. Outside again to drain our waste water tanks and hook up the trailer hitch. Not fun in the dark, never do that! It took several tries to line up the ball to the hitch. groping in the dark and now it is 6.35. Finally all done, we think, and out we go. Of course Doug has to have one last go at the Internet from the car as we pulled out. No go. Off we go. Horrors, 28 kilometres on winding coastal roads in the dark.

With divine intervention, we arrived at the ferry slip, at exactly 7.15!

Inside there is a slow moving line to pay, it is painful to see after being on BC Ferries. [Now they know how to do it!] Loading was also slow and awkward. The ferry deck is littered with tie down hooks for rough weather? [Not a good sign.]

We are ushered between a large RV, behind a tractor trailer with two trailers, with a giant water drilling truck on the other side.

Up on deck. Two flights up the 80 degree steel stairway to the lounge. Bright and sunny, smooth as glass, that was the crossing, just minutes short of three hours. Fellette read, I edited photos on the computer, wrote e-mails to send, I have no idea when and finish another book.

Off at 12.10 and to the Reversing Falls by 12.20.

Not much reversing going on but we saw the video and understand what happens. Next a lunch in the parking lot and straighten out the trailer from our hurried departure.

Off to Fundy where two campsites were shut that should be open but it turned out great, we are right on the Bay, in the Park with a National Park Camp.

Off on a venture to see what we could before the predicted rains come. Of course Fellette took us on two small hikes to iron out our legs and bums. Great viewing and good to get a bit of a walk in.

Back to the trailer where Fellette has two pots of boiling soups on the stove getting rid of leftovers before we cross into Maine in a couple of days.

Good day.
